BN Information and Security (Battalion S-2)
The S-2 is responsible to the Battalion Commander for all matters pertaining to unit security and safety to include enforcement of security and safety requirements and the Battalion Security and Safety SOP.
The S-2 specific duties and responsibilities include:
1. Making periodic inspections of the supply room, equipment storage areas, and classrooms.
a. Rifle Inventory is done on a monthly basis. All weapons are locked in a closet that is located in between classrooms. New Weapons are locked in the school's attic.
b. U.S. inventory is done on a monthly basis. Items that are no longer in use or that are broken are placed behind the classroom and items that are still in use are found on the AI's/SAI's desk, or in the classroom.
c. Rifle inventory is signed monthly by either the AI or SAI. The U.S. Inventory is also signed monthly by the AI.
2. Making necessary on-the-spot corrections resulting from security inspections and reporting to the Battalion Executive Officer, Battalion Commander, and the AI/SAI.
3. Providing a weather report to the staff for upcoming operations and events.
a. The weather report is posted on the bulletin board to the right of the classroom doors.
4. Coordinating all activities involving rifles and advising the Battalion Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, and the AI/SAI on the condition of the rifles. Specific duties include:
a. Making sure that there is always a Rifle and Saber Sign In and Out sheet, on the rifle closet door, for the Drill, Exhibition, and Color Guard Commanders to fill out.
b. Ensuring that the Drill Team, Exhibition Team, and Color Guard Team Commanders or Assistant Commanders are filling out the Rifle and Saber Sign In and Out sheet (which is placed on the Rifle closet door) properly.
c. If rifles are being taken outside of the building for competitions or special events, ensure that they are put away in their correct cases and are signed out before the event and signed back in at least the next school day.
5. Invitations for school faculty and special guests are spent at least four weeks prior to the event, with an RSVP date two weeks prior to the event. Some of these events include but are not limited to Award Ceremonies, Home Competitions, Away Competitions and Formal Briefings.
6. Keep track of all of the Merits, Demerits and Net Merits of the cadets on an Excel SpreadSheet, and informs cadets about their Net Merits.
7. Performing other duties as assigned by the Battalion Commander, Battalion Executive Officer, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, or the AI/SAI.
